Most bolt action rifles' locking lug area typically attracts brass chips, primer residue, and solvent, among other debris. Over time, this concentration of debris can have a heavy impact on the bolt lugs. Fortunately, our lug recess tool, which can be used with felts or cotton rolls, is tailored specifically to clean the neglected locking lug recess area that's hard to reach.

Our tool has a slotted head that allows you to attach cleaning felts and cotton rolls (which we supply), insert the tool into the action, and then rotate it inside the lug recess areas to clear out debris. You can add solvent to the felts or cotton to remove dirt, then follow up with a dry felt/cotton roll to dry out the area. You can also use the chamber swab and handle (8-32 threads for large bore mops) to clean and dry the chamber.

To clean the bolt, you can use our double-headed bolt brush to scrub the bolt lugs, bolt face, and bolt body. It's recommended that you apply degreaser spray to the bolt and scrub with the double-headed brush. After cleaning, you need to apply new grease to the bolt's bearing surfaces. Additionally, the bolt shroud should be routinely cleaned and re-greased.
