RCBS provides Steel Neck Bushings that can be interchanged, allowing the user to select the optimal bushing that exerts the right amount of tension on bullets when utilizing RCBS Gold Medal Match sizing dies. By utilizing a precisely fitted Steel Neck Bushing, case neck brass is less prone to work hardening, which extends case life and improves accuracy.
The Steel Neck Bushings are self-centering, which ensures they are correctly aligned with the case neck. For superior results, it is recommended to use high-end brass that has consistent neck thicknesses. The bushings are delivered in their bare steel state, meaning that traditional case lubrication is required. Keep in mind that they can only be used with RCBS Gold Medal sizing dies.
For optimal performance, RCBS advises that users obtain neck bushings one to two sizes above and below their desired diameter (refer to the note below). Steel Neck Bushings are fundamental components when it comes to loading consistent ammunition that delivers a superb shooting experience while utilizing Gold Medal Match sizing dies.
Brownells Gun Tech™ Tip: Two methods are available to help users select the required steel neck bushings. They are as follows: (1) Measure the outside neck diameter of the loaded cartridge and then reduce it by between .002" to .003". This allows for about .001" of brass to spring back to provide the right neck tension. (2) Measure the neck wall thickness of the case, multiply it by two, add the bullet diameter, and deduct .002" to .003".
